Picked this board for minimalist look and solid wood construction. I like a thick board and felt like this was the best value board from amerous as the thickness is .59 inches and that doesn’t increase as you go up to the 17 inch or 19 inch boards. However if you go down to their 12 inch board, the thickness goes down to .43 inches. Only gripe is the edges are kind of sharp, wish they had a version with corners and edges sanded smooth for safer play with kids.

This board looks very nice, and witb it’s 1.5 inch squares is the prefect size for an antique library sized set of men from the 40’s that belonged to my grandfather. They look great on this board, and also the smaller 15″ X 15″ footprint leaves more room on my table so I can have a chess book open to do analysis, problems, etc. The board comes in a strong box with excellent foam protection which makes for an excellent storage container when not in use. I heartily recommend this for anyone looking for a smaller board on a budget.
