   I want to give this 5 stars but really wish they included an extra light and dark queen for pawn promotion, using a rook upside down or trying to remember just doesn’t cut it. Also one of the light pawns arrived with a broken collar – i glued it back, wear and tear is expected with use but would be nice to start off with a perfect set. Just the right size for a 2.25” sqauare board but I think these would be just as comfortable on a 2” square to 2.5” square board. Weight is fine, not too light or heavy. The felt on the bottom is fuzzier pool table cloth vs others that look like flatter stickers. Compared to another set on here that also cost roughly $50 (which also came with a black and white velvet bag for storage and two extra queens, btw), the wood working on this set is finer; the cutting is smoother, the polish is shinier, the black is blacker, and the knights are consistent and not crudely carved, though I always found the standard German knight’s eyes a bit comical every time. The queen’s coronet in particular is so nicely done. There’s a trade off in value I guess – even though this set didn’t come with velvet bags or extra queens, the wood finishing is better.

   Para el precio están muy bien, son Staunton de competencias, la madera está muy bien, vienen con una sola dama, pero compré 2 juegos, también con la posibilidad de reemplazar alguna pieza que se me malogre o pierda más adelante y hablando de comprar 2, me llegó una como en la foto, dos caballos separados de su base, pero nada que un buen pegamento no pueda arreglar. Por otro lado, compré un juego parecida a estas , pero de otra marca más reconocida, me costaron un poco más del doble de uno de ellos, aunque vinieron con un mejor fieltro, dos damas, bien envueltas y sin fallas.

   I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the pieces! They resembled pieces from much more expensive sets! It doesn’t have extra queens but that isn’t a big deal with how nice they are for the price!

   Wooden competition-size (3¾”)chess sets are generally over $100 and lower priced sets are usually crude and weirdly shaped. This set is half the price of what you usually pay for this, and it does not disappoint. It’s well finished, regular shaped (for instance the Queen’s coronet like it should be, not just a rounded top like in cheaper sets) and even the knights are finely crafted (one may consider the German-style knights “too basic” but they are *the* standard for tournament play). However, not giving 5 stars because it’s not perfect; some of the white pieces are made of slightly darker wood than the others, and the felt bases are rather crude. Still, if you’re looking for a great looking wooden set on a budget, this is highly recommended.
