- STRATEGIC BOARD GAME: Set in the mythical land of Ankar, Cloudspire is a competitive and cooperative board game where players build fortresses in competition to become the most powerful faction. Gampeplay includes chips, dice and cards.
- HOW TO PLAY: Advance your fortress, build spires, hire mercenary forces, and send minions and heroes barreling toward opposing fortresses Your goal is to defeat your opponents’ fortress gates while protecting your own. The faction with the most powerful fortress wins.
- GROUP OR SOLO PLAY: Play this game on your own for a solo mission or play with as many as four additional players. Each round lasts between 90 to 120 minutes for a solid evening of fun with endless combinations and possibilities.
- IDEAL FOR TEENS AND ADULTS: This is a complex game that is best played by those ages 12 and up, but it’s equally fun for adults. Interact with four factions in the land of Ankar including the brawnen, grovetenders, narora and heirs.

Cloudspire is a complicated game. It is not recommended for those starting out in the hobby but if you’re a fan of the MOBA computer game genre it’s a must have. It brings games like DOTA2 and League of Legends on to the table with a dash of tower defense with just as much complexity. Even for seasoned groups like my own, it took roughly 3-5 plays to really get all the rules and hidden depth to click but once it did we ended up having a blast.

I’m slowly becoming a big fan of Chip Theory Games. This is a saleable “RPG” game in the vein of Space Hulk and Hero Quest. The game uses a number of cloth-based “tiles” that fit together for each scenario for each gameplay. The game pieces are very well made “coins” with graphics that represent characters and other items instead of miniatures. And the rules include a whole extensive “solo” play that makes it possible to have fun with any number of players. And the quality of all the materials is top notch. I think the price is very high, but I’m finding they quality matches the price and they not only have extensive expansion sets for this game they include digital copies of the rules so everyone can have a copy when it comes to starting a game.
