This is a well made, well thought out game. It is the sort of game you get better and better at as you realize what strategies work and what strategies fail.

If you enjoy playing Go, you’ll probably enjoy playing any one of the six games in the Gipf Project (Gipf/Zertz/Tzaar/Dvonn/Yinsh/Punct). Dvonn is no exception. The mechanics are simple, but when played against a worthy opponent, it can be a complex and richly satisfying game experience. As you would hope from a two person strategy game with a distinct Opening, Middle and End game, your first move affects your 20th move. While Kris Burm has indicated that this game in the series represents “Fire,” he cleverly treats it not as a destructive force but a creative one. Contact with fire actually keeps you in the game and allows you to grow, while separation causes valuable pieces to be lost. One of the attributes of the Gipf Project that I enjoy is that while each game maintains an overall visual and tactile aesthetic, each takes an enjoyably unique approach to the concepts of force and strength. In the case of Dvonn, the more powerful you become, the fewer your options for movement. As a result you become vulnerable. That’s a pretty neat twist.

This game is very good! Could not stop playing it!

I have all the Gipf games including tamsk and this might be my favorite. It’s simple but complex in just the right ways and it goes by quickly enough that several games in a round are a common occurrence

This game is exceptional. In the world.of chess/checker like games, this stands out and pretty unique. Worth the money

Great game! My nine-year-old could catch on to it quickly, yet the game has enough depth to the strategy that the adults I share it with enjoy it also. Very fun for a 2-player strategy game.

This game is an amazing 2-player abstract strategy game. If you like strategy games, then get it quick before it goes out of print. I see that Yinsh is really hard to get and it is my favorite of the series. The whole series is amazing, but skip Punct if you should choose to skip one. Start with Yinsh, Dvonn, or Tzaar if you are going to get one.
