   I love the idea of this kind of Chess board. Small box setup that holds the pieces. It screams and looks like something real expensive and something you can pass down generation to generation. However, I feel it falls short of that expectation as the top of the board is thin and flimsy. A thin piece of vaneer or plywood while the sides are nice and thick with actual wood. The sides seem nice and durable as well as does the chess pieces being made of metal. The gameboard comes with all the chess pieces including an extra queen for both sides. As for the top of the board and the pattern, It shows the quadrants of each square however the small rectangular pattern on the board seems a bit confusing as it blends in with the entire color. I know it’s supposed to be the boarder surrounding the playable area, but I feel as if they could have done a better job at it. I’m also not to found of the color stain used. On the photos, it looked a bit like a darker red color, but turns out like an orangish color which is not to my taste (my personal preference but not holding it against the review). As mentioned above, my biggest setback for this game board would be the top part. It feels to thin whereas every other part of the board is thick and feels durable. Drop anything heavy on the top and I’m sure it’ll crack.

   This is a really nice wooden chess set! The pieces were in a definite jumble when I opened the drawers for the first time, but otherwise everything was in really great shape. Downsides I’ve noticed include the padding on the top of the drawer seems to want to come out when pulling the drawers in and out. Also, why does this set include 2 Queen pieces for each side? That doesn’t really make any sense, there should only be 1 Queen per color. The pieces are nice and heavy though, and feel nice to handle while you play.
