   Everdell is one of my favorite games on my shelf, the scrolling font calls to me and asks to be played anytime we’re looking for something to play and can’t think of what to play. Everdell is just a go to game here in our home and we love it for all kinds of reasons. Everdell is a story, and adding Pearlbrook to it gives us another chapter in this world of amusing and notable critters and their wonderful evolving world. From the moment we got the Pearlbrook box we already were hooked and anxious to play. So since I mentioned the box let me go ahead and say it along with the other Everdell expansions are boxes that stay on my shelf just because of how they look. The art work on the boxes as well as throughout all the game and its expansions from the cards to the rulebook are my favorite part of this game world. This is quality work that I can never talk about enough. One of my other favorite things about Everdell are the resource tokens, I think most of you will understand about how much fun it is to squish the berry tokens. What you are going to love even more than the berries are the amazing Pearls that are the new currency here in Pearlbrook. They are shiny, beautiful and have a wonderful weight to them that was unexpected but adds so much to the game. Our wonderful exploring citizens have ventured far from the Evertree and discovered a new thriving underwater community in the Pearlbrook River and we’ve begun exchanging goods and forming alliances with even more awesome critters. As you begin trade with Pearlbrook with your frog ambassador you’ll collect these pearls and use them to begin new building endeavors back home. The Pearlbrook expansion is built around this extra new focus point of acquiring and putting to use the pearl resource. Four monuments with very high construction costs replace the base game events and give even more flexibility in how you can score points, more options as to how you play and what you build are great. Pearls themselves are also valuable and are valued at 2 points each if you have any at end game scoring. Also, as noted in some of the flavor text in the rulebook are adornment cards that provide both exquisitely crafted items made from the pearls you accumulate but also have an immediate and end game scoring opportunity. The city of Pearlbrook is mentioned as being beautifully decorated and adorned these pearls to the ambassador from Everdell wants to send these marvelous treasures back home to begin decorating the cities there. How you use your pearls can sway final scoring in exciting ways. I am drawn in by this continued narrative theme of the creatures of this world. I love seeing how the story is driving the expansions for this game. There is a great bit of story in the rulebook about recruiting pirates to begin sailing the Pearlbrook River and hopefully eventually hitting open water and setting sail in search of treasure as they have a trusted map to lead them. This is represented in the game with new Pirate ship cards and Pirate critter. I am impressed by these small tie ins between the game and the story. Pearlbrook offers up a great number of new scoring possibilities, more than I originally thought were possible with the expansion. In my first games I wanted to rush to build some of the big scoring monuments and focused almost primarily on those, and I found myself losing. It’s a tricky balance with this expansion, you still have to spend time focusing and building the engine of your city in Everdell all the while making plans for your autumn round and how you might spend resources and your acquired pearls then. I love this expansion and find that it is smoothly added to the base game, took us only a few moments to go over some simple rule updates and we’ve been enjoying our trips to the river ever since.

   The out of the box experience here is great. Everything looks beautiful and is easy to assemble. The new rules are simple and quick to learn. This is a great addition to the original, which is one of my absolute favorites.

   This game was fairly easy to learn with a group of experience board game players. The components of the game are very unique and the artwork of the cards is wonderful. The gameplay is unique and can be played multiple times with different outcomes, events and characters.

   If you are looking for an expansion to Everdell that adds some changes to the base game then this is pretty cool. It adds a new section to the board that involves some underwater elements and new resources like pearls.

   We played it a few times. It nice to have when you want to change it up, but not a must have for us that we always needs to have in play.

    The Pearlbrook is an expansion that’s easy to learn and fun . It has gorgeous pearls and beautiful meeples. The gameplay doesn’t change much , it kinda acts like an extra resource with some restrictions and benefits with the pearls.

    This expansion adds a whole new feel to the game.
    I looked at getting the non-collectors edition but adding the collector’s pack later was just going to be more money overall and I really like what the collector’s edition adds to this expansion.
