I got this for my librarian friend as a birthday present. With a little bit of effort and the instructions on hand, it’s easy enough to learn and even easier to teach once you get the hang of it. The mechanics are fun and straightforward, while still leaving room for strategy. While there are winners and losers in this game, it isn’t super competitive. There aren’t many ways to attack other players. There is a variant where players remove some of the more PvP-centric cards, but even if you leave them in, there isn’t much room for salt in this game.

At GenCon 50 this is the game all of my friends raved about. Unfortunately when I went to buy it there were no boxes for sale, so I had to wait. Since finally getting my hands on this game I can see what all of the fuss is about! It’s cute, nerdy, competitive and quick. My friends of a literary background especially love it. Take time to read the book titles on the cards. You won’t regret it.

This game is my dream come true. Organizing books from a fantasy world where gelatinous cubes and gnomes run libraries… it’s everything a game should be. Easy to learn and lots of fun. Be sure you have plenty of playing space because your bookshelves can get pretty big. Hoping that there’s an expansion with more book options/categories, libraries, locations, and character options.

Love the mechanics and variable setup. An interesting theme really pulls you in. Gameplay is not too long to wear out it’s welcome. Really nothing else like it in my collection. My one negative is that the text on the cards is a little small and hard to read when you’re keeping up on locations added every turn.

Every time you play it’s different scenario since there is so many moving parts. Beautiful art and high quality parts. I warmly recommend this game.
Also: Can be played also with only 2 players or even solo mode!

My wife works in a library, so this was a no-brainer. I thought it would be a little boring, but it is actually a pretty fun game. The rules are a little tricky if you read them, but there was a great youtube video on how to play that made it a lot clearer.
There is actually a lot of strategy that goes on during this game, in all it was worth the money.

Though appearing simple, Ex Libris is a strategy game set in a library with some added twists. Collecting sets of books, ensuring the shelves are stable and in alphabetical order, there is a lot to think about when playing each turn. As a solo player this really works, though would love to see how it plays with more people. The cars are beautifully design and each title quirky and unique. Don’t just place the cards without reading them!

When I’m bored and alone at home, it’s nice to know I can turn to Ex Libris for a great solo game. The solo mode is insanely easy to set up. There are no decisions to be made for an AI player whatsoever, which I love, and yet you are still in competition with an opponent–the public library! Of course it is also great to play with friends. The strategy changes in a group setting, but the basic mechanics are the same.
The game’s theme of library building is so cute, and I love that each card has unique alfabetized book names on the spine of each and every book! Easy to set up and put away, and I love that the score card is a dry erase board so you don’t have to worry about running out of paper score cards!

This is the BEST game that I own. I love to find unique games that are the typical Hasbro games i grew up on. Ex Libris is quick to learn and has a FANTASTIC solo mode. This is by far my new favourite game, that I will never get bored of. Renegade Game Studios makes a great game and this is the first of many that I have fallen in love with.
