   I lost my beautiful, solid wood chess board in a move so purchased this expecting something similar. This is fake wood. It feels and looks cheap. Mine also came with a large gouge in the edge despite being packaged well.

   Board came double wrapped in bubble wrap inside a box, nicely packaged for shipping! About a half inch thick with soft feet. The wood inlay and craftsmanship are apparent as this is sort of a pricey board, but the price is reflected in the quality feel and finish. Paired the board with a set of Staunton large plastic chess pieces and it made a beautiful set I would display anywhere.

   I’ve been looking around for a while for a wooden 2″ squares board, and this one is very nice. It seems that the 2023 rate for entry level chess boards is about $100 for a nice real-wood inlaid veneer board, so $80 is welcome. I’m pleased with the veneer, and it looks great with my boxwood pieces. The sheen is a satin, which I like.
