   Excellent game for the strategic level of the American Civil War. Even though the rulebook is a pretty hefty 40pages in length this is a surprisingly easy game to learn if you are familiar with wargames. I don’t think this would be a good game if you are early in your career as a wargamer. That said it is much more readily learned than many of the games of this level that are available today.

   This game is fun and not really that complicated. If you like The Civil War 1861 by Victory Games you will love this game even more.

   I played the campaign game of USCW once, over about 10 hours. The game is well-produced and the rules are well-written. The map is beautiful. However, this game didn’t really hold my attention. Normally if I’m really into a game I find myself thinking about strategy between sessions, and I didn’t find myself doing that with this game. I didn’t think there was all that much I could do other than wait to see what the Union did and respond. I haven’t played this game since or really felt the urge to. Something I would say also is that this game isn’t really a TOY. It’s designed more for serious gamers who are willing to put the time into learning it. I wouldn’t recommend it for young children.

   The package arrived within the time stated by the seller. It was a brand-new, revised copy of a game that I played many years ago. I didn’t realize this until it arrived and I read the game description on the back of the box. I have yet to play, although that will change soon. Having said that, there seem to be fewer cardboard pieces included in the game than I remember and am wondering if the amount in the box will suffice. Beyond that, I am impressed with the quality of the rule book (looking forward to digging into the newer rules and the cards? that were included). Most thankful for the switch from a previously paper map to a sturdier cardboard map. Overall, I am ecstatic to have stumbled upon the game that brought me so much pleasure as a young adult. I am looking forward to introducing my teenage son to this great game.

   Beautiful Maps, hard bound, very nice counters, the rules are well laid out and easy to comprehend. An excellent strategic war game!
