   This game is a family favourite, and has been for over 30 years.
   3rd generation of family find the brain game play more exciting.
   The board tiles are a bit hard to read, but doesn;t spoil the game. Shame Avalon Hill stop trading. They were a great game company.

   The board does need the numbers/letters painted, but they are raised, so it was easy. My group of 3 have played the previous edition over 20 times and enjoyed every game. This edition has made things “fairer” by awarding the top three shareholders money instead of the top two. This makes money more available which allows for comebacks. ( The previous editions are great, but they are brittle, with a player becoming being cash poor and basically out of the game. ) We didn’t think we would like the new edition more, but after 5 plays, we are hooked. We really like the free-flowing money version and out earlier edition now gathers dust.

   Very cool game, and this is the best version because the tiles are not just cardboard (they’re plastic and made to fit into the grid board). There are two things that I did to improve the game: 1. get/make a drawstring bag to keep the tiles in. Otherwise they’ll take up half the table. 2. Paint the raised letters on the grid board so you can read them. They’re in a weird font and don’t stand out much unless you paint them with nail polish or something.

   This version at the same great game play, and then some, with the addition of a tertiary winner for each stock. The bad part of this version is the board and piece design are really poor. The font they used is really hard to read and delineate which letter is which, and which number is which. We are constantly putting the buildings blocks in the wrong place. The board has the piece nomenclature on each place as well, but if it was hard to read in two tone, imagine what it is like in one color. The box also needs to be a centimeter bigger to easily fit the board and all the pieces in it. Whatever those stupid orange pieces were that were supposed to go on the buildings, save yourself the hassle and recycle them right off the bat. Waste of time and frustration trying to get those on the buildings and they just make the ugly. We always run out of money at the end of the game, their needed to be 10 more 5000’s in order to settle up. The game play is still fun, especially when played with the stocks face down after purchase.

   I was introduced to Aquire in 2019 by a friend who had played it with her father growing up. After recently finding the “old family edition,” she talked me into playing a game or two. That first game was fun but a lot to remember. Every game I’ve played since then has been a BLAST! Give this super fun board game a try. It doesn’t take hours to play (like some games *cough* Monopoly *cough*) and truly makes you feel like a hotel tycoon!

   This may be nostalgia speaking, but I love having a decent quality copy of the official game. Generally, the quality of the components is good. Or at least good enough. As others will say, the game board text is almost impossible to see without any modification. I bought this knowing that was an issue. I just went along and used some white acrylic paint. It made a world of difference. The text issue aside, the board is really neat. The piping under the buildings, and cars on the roads just make it that much more visually interesting. With the characters painted, no one seemed to have major issues reading/placing their tiles. Keep in mind that I had two people over 60, with poor vision. So, the text isn’t that unreadable (with painting). As others said, the paper money is nothing special, but it does its job. It lets you buy and sell stocks. Replace it if you don’t like it. I may, some time in the future. Monopoly money or poker chips could work. Either way, it wasn’t a major issue for the enjoyment of the game. In my copy I got two 3C tiles, and a few warped tiles. I am in the process of getting them replaced. I will update this post if the company falls through on replacing them. Even with these issues, gameplay was not negatively affected. The game was still fun to play. I am not a purist that is bothered by minutia. I am someone that was nostalgic for the days when I played Acquire with friends when I was younger. I wanted something other than the cardboard board, and this version gave me exactly what I was looking for. Could it have been better, sure, but it was worth it to me. As for improvements that I would suggest factory painting of the board’s text (if possible), and better quality control for the tiles. Most of the tiles were fine, but more than a few were warped. These issues would put the game at about 3.5 stars, with nostalgia bumping it up to 4. I like the theming, and general attempted design. Please just try to fix the issues I mentioned above. Update 2/15/2017: The company sent the replacement pieces. They arrived fairly quickly, and were in good shape. I will bump my rating up to a solid 4, simply for the quick and helpful customer service. I don’t plan to move it any higher, mostly due to the extra effort on my part to make the board’s text easier to read. Would I buy it again? Sure, any person that simply enjoys playing the game would if they didn’t have a copy.
