   My 13 year old daughter and her friend played this game together. Both are bright kids, so they were good candidates for a “Mensa” challenge. They had fun and remained engaged for the entire game, even leaving their devices alone while strategizing. They put the gear mechanism together themselves (even though the package suggests adult assembly) and though that in itself was somewhat of a challenge, they felt it was part of the fun. The initial game took about half an hour to play but the second round went a bit more quickly. Both kids enjoyed the anticipation of not knowing what was going on with the opponent’s tokens. The fun is the act of trying to out think the other player and being surprised by the outcome. It’s not iconic like Monopoly or Risk and does not have as many variables, and when asked, the kids felt they wouldn’t choose Downspin over one of the traditional Milton Bradley-type games. They did have fun though and plan to play it again. This game really made them think outside the box. ~ Kort

   Great game, engaging and simple for young kids (5+ years in my experience) to grasp and excel over time. Simple concept, well executed overall, but keeps kids interacting throughout the entire game. While it has some level of skill and planning at its core, it can be played just for fun too.

   Very clever concept & a fun game, but the plastic is very cheap- some of the gears don’t turn easily or they work loose after awhile and the “tokens” are way too light. They keep getting jammed in the gears because they don’t have enough weight to stay in the shoot properly. Still a fun game, just wish it was a little sturdier.
