great game
Retired and loving it Verified Buyer –
We wore out our first set. It used to be available in an 8X8 tile and 10X10 tile version. We preferred the smaller set. And we adapted this by blacking out the outer ring of tile positions and using only those playing tiles that would have been in the original 8X8 version. (We are not the first to do this. The manufacturer should poll its clients.) Two player games last about an hour; we use a timer allowing 2 minutes a turn. It is as stimulating as Scrabble and less restrictive.

I love playing Scrabble Upwords online, so when I went to buy this as a Christmas present for someone else, I couldn’t wait for them to open it so I could play it. The game does not disappoint from the online version. The only I would change (as has been mentioned in other reviews) is that the game pieces sit very loosely on the board. So if you’re playing on the floor, or with someone fidgety, there’s a good chance you’ll be trying to replace tiles when they get knocked off.
Overall, this game is a good one to add to your collection. It’s fun, challenging, and there’s nothing like the feeling of scoring big on someone else’s word!

What an incredible game! As much as the two of us love Scrabble, I was sure this one would be cool Tool! It truly is a very fun way to increase your vocabulary, bring back words you may have long forgotten to use, find brand new words, or increase the ways of using terms and words also. My husband and I just have a blast playing it. It is one of those you must really think while playing. It also usually takes over an hour to play, just depending on what is already on the board, or while using your letters to “upword” to possibly an entire new word, or create a partial new word. I high recommend it for all ages that are into spelling, knowing the meaning of words and so forth. For those adults that are getting a little up in age, and feel you are kind of losing your vocabulary skills and/or spelling skills, this is an awesome and fun way to “brush up”.

I haven’t used it yet but didn’t want to be unable to get a set when I noticed it not on the shelves. As a former first grade teacher I enjoyed the game immensely and relished playing with children in the primary grades. I’ve worn out at least 3 games and often gave it as a present when invited to friends’ home for the first time.

We have played Upwords for years, and used at least 2 sets of tiles before buying this game. The tiles that
come with it are ,by far, of the worst quality we have experienced. Before two months of use, the paint has worn off the letters to the point where they are almost unreadable.

Played this at a friend’s house recently and decided to buy one for our family, Be warned: the board and tiles have been scaled down (no doubt to save money) from earlier versions. So the tiles are pretty small for adult hands. Even worse (to me) is that the board is now a garish green (brighter and more garish than the boardgamesweekly.com photo suggests) — it is so gross. This is probably the manufacturer’s attempt to compete with all the bright colors of video games. They really blew it. Better for a board game to offer something that most video games can’t: the opportunity for a tactile experience, some eye contact and some quality family time. Instead, you get this overpriced piece of plastic (cheap bright green board and 100 small letter tiles). I’d return it if I could, and look on eBay for an older version.
