We hosted a Murder Mystery Party using Honky Tonk Homicide. It was alot of fun. Everyone dressed up for their part and got into character. The game provides a lot of fun and laughs.

There were enough people to have a full compliment of characters. We played on New Years Eve. Would be nice to have some links to go to where we could print out some signs. For example, I make my own “Welcome to (name of town) city population” sign so people could start feeling they were in the game the minute they came to our front door. Signs like that to place around the house. Those of a honkytonk variety.
Other than that, it played out well, and we had a lot of fun. We all dressed the part, and you’ll never guess who killed whom until the very end of the game.

We just played this game over the weekend. I turned it into a large group game with the 8 main characters and some interaction from the “audience”. The characters were perfect for their roles. It was so much fun. We created props from cardboard and I made finger foods for snacks. In between Chapters/Scenes, I allowed the guests to visit the “crime scene” for clues. The only thing I was worried about was the characters reading from their scripts in order so I numbered the paragraphs throughout the scripts to help them along. It was truly a fun time. I would recommend this game!

Don’t get me wrong, living in Texas as I do I thought that this was a great theme with hilarious characters. The beginning of the game has a great setup, with a shooting in a Texas saloon and clues scattered throughout the bar. The rest of the game, though, is a total let down. I’ve played many other mystery party games before, and usually by the fourth round there are all kinds of fun little secrets about each character that are revealed. In this edition, however, there are a couple characters that had literally only one or two secrets at the beginning of the game that were revealed, and these characters were just simply forgotten by the third round. And if role-playing isn’t your forte and you just want to solve a good mystery, then forget it. We have eight characters, each has a motive, but you have absolutely no inkling as to the identity of the murderer by the end. It’s as if they wrote all the scripts, then drew a name out of a hat at the end to pick the murderer. In other words, there’s no way to solve it. I would suggest one of the older Murder a la Carte games instead, like Bullets and Barbecue or Lethal Luau. This one was just terrible and I was embarrassed to invite some of my new gamers to it.

GreAt fun but the directions were to vague. Would play it again but would not play as this needed a facalitor

We hosted the Honky Tonk Homicide for a group of 8 in their 60’s and 70’s. Everyone really got into their characters with costumes, props, etc. The “bar” set-up was fun. The suggestion for bottles to be set around worked just great, and we used our deck as the site of dinner with newspapers as place mats and dead plants as centerpieces. (Really tacky!)
We had great fun trying to investigate the murder, but no one picked him/her out, so I guess the murderer was good at keeping us guessing.
My only complaint was the script given to each character in our booklets was a little confusing, and since this was our first try at this, no one knew when to start and when to follow someone else. Would have preferred more direction – like #1 speaker, for example. That would have assisted our novice group.
Overall well worth the price and a fun evening. They also include a computer CD with another game, which we’ll be trying.

well, unfortunatley who ever packed my game, they forgot to pack the CD that comes with it. i had six friends over, dressed to the nines in cowboy western gear, and we had no direction. so we improvised.
the game itself was fun. just check before you have your party that you got your cd. it was a real buzz kill.

This murder mystery was clunky with a thin story line. I bought this game for a New Year’s Eve party and the best part of the game was laughing at how bad it was.
