   These pieces are exquisite. The extra large size of the pieces allows them to fit perfectly in your hand and the weight of the pieces is perfect. The knights are unique and beautifully crafted. The pieces have a subtle finish that protects them, but is not overly glossy and allows the natural character of the wood to show. The squares on my board are 1 7/8″ by 1 7/8.” As you can see, these pieces fit that space perfectly. The only reason I rated these pieces low “for traveling” is because I would never travel with something so well made (and neither should you)…that’s what crappy plastic pieces are for.

   I’l probably just keep it as a decoration. Or not. Probably nicer in a 2″-2.17″ square chessboard. The chessboard in the video/picture is a 2.25″ square.

   I was looking for a set that looked like my grandfather’s- the one I learned on with my family forever ago. This arrived and I was very pleased. The heft is good, the finish is wonderful- very nice, simple chess set. The only thing I’d change is the expression of the knights horsehead. These appear to be joyful, while the set of my childhood had ANGRY war horse faces. Still, I am very pleased!

   I have 3 full size plastic chess sets but wanted a nice wood set of regulation size and weight. This set fits the bill without being too expensive. Nicely finished and weighted to what seems to be triple weighted. I looked at others but the finish was too heavy and rough. These are very nice, couldn’t be happier…
