    Honestly, not bad. My only complaint would be that the knight is completely crooked. I guess not that big of a deal but I did however pay $60 for wooden chess pieces.

    At this pricepoint ($35 when purchased) I’m pretty please with the overall feel and look. The big caveats are that a decent amount of the pieces don’t sit flat (either base weight is a little crooked or the felt is just bunched in some spots) and one of my rooks definitely missed the quality check part of the process. It’s kinda lopsided and has some scratches on the base. Again, I’m keeping the set as I don’t like the hassle of repacking, and replacement but just know you aren’t getting a perfect set, a nice hobbyist set for sure though

    The pieces are meant for a larger board and so the bishop cannot past by the king and queen on adjacent diagonal squares. Also, the ratio of the diameter of the king to the length of the square (1.5) is like 86%, again pieces are too large. Perhaps smaller pieces may be better (or a bigger board) but I still really like this setup. You can see the pics and decide for yourself

    Seems well made and nothing was broken or missing as some other reviewers noted. A bit weighted, not flimsy feeling. I wish the box was a bit bigger because you can only jumble together the pieces to fit rather than standing or organizing. It is rather roughly finished on the outside but I just wanted something to hold the pieces so its acceptable.

    Overall wonderful purchase, I personally make some chess boards to sell and keep for myself, and one problem I’ve found with almost all chess pieces is that they don’t work with multiple boards, these pieces work fantastic with any board you play with and are a great size for a medium sized board. And the weight is perfect, they feels like high quality pieces whenever I play. The only problem is that the box seems a little cheap.

    As a chess novice, had spent hours comparing details I had no experience with, such as weight of pieces. After touching and holding a neighbor’s set pieces, I knew I wanted heavily weighted ones, but didn’t know how to gauge that. In this set’s Description, it should post that the pieces were “single weighted.” I took a chance that they were double, so was disappointed that they weren’t, but as a stone beginner will accommodate to weight and move merrily along. Craftsmanship on box, felt bases, and smoothness of wood is beautiful and pleasant to touch and eye. Can’t wait to begin.

    This is a very good set for the price! It has reasonable details, feel, weight, proportions, and the pieces in the set I received are smooth and have a nice finish. Yes, you can get fancier sets, but expect to pay more than double what these cost. I am very happy with this set. The felt on the bases isn’t the greatest, but wouldn’t be difficult for me to do in the future if I want to. Great for daily use and nice for display as well. I recommend a board with minimum 1-7/8″ squares.
