   I really liked this game when growing up, so I decided to give this one a try and get it for my grandson. It has all of the bells and whistles that make the game really fun to play. I am teaching him how to play and he is really excited about the strategy of the game and how it works. This one is a nice step up from the basic game with no lights and sound. We have been happy with this product and have enjoyed playing it.

   This toy was fun for my son at the start of the summer but he quickly lost interest if we weren’t there to coach him. He likes the original battleship game. I could see this being fun for him in a year or 2. He is currently 7, so I’d reccomend more for the 9-10 year old age group

   This electronic “Sea Battle” game is just like the commercial version you remember, but it also has a few other game modes that are fun to play. The game comes with two charts (one for each player) of 200 pre-set ship positions. This makes it far easier and faster to setup and begin playing then if you chose your own positions (which you can still do). If you use a pre-set position, you simply pick a number from the chart, place you ships where the chart indicates, then enter that number into the game. When playing the game and taking shots at each other you still need to call out your shots so your opponent can place a peg on their play-field, but the game will confirm whether you hit or miss with fun sound effects. My 10 year-old son and I played together and he was able to pick up the concepts of the game right away. We still need to try the other game modes, but for now we are enjoying the standard battle type game. Recommended for hours of fun and young kids will pick it up quickly.

   Although this can be played as a classic battleship game with noises and a flashing light, the extra value comes from using enhanced versions of the game. In the “radar” version of the game, I select a point (like E 3) and press the “weapon” button. The radar will “ping” back at me. One ping means that a ship is within one location of me–up, down, right, left or diagonal. In “aircraft” mode, I get as many shots per turn as my enemy has ships in action. When my aircraft carrier is destroyed, I only get one shot per turn. There are six types of games, the original and five variations (two of which I alluded to above). A “cheat sheet” of 200 variations of ship setup is available for each side. This can be entered much more easily than coding the position of each ship. I can code the positions of each ship if so desired. When set up, this game is about 9 inches wide, 16 inches long and 8 inches high. It folds down to a flat pack and doesn’t take much space for storage.

   This game is so complex to understand and set-up. It became a source of frustration than fun. I paid nearly ninety dollars for this game, but ended up ordering the simpler thirty dollar version of “Battleship”.

   I was excited to find an electronic version to teach my kids like when I grew up playing battleship. But the only way we could make it work was to place the boats in the preprogrammed pattern. I could not get the game to accept my coordinates to play a custom game. It was returned unfortunately.

   The game is fun and the added sound effects are pretty cool. It also knows where you place your ships and lets you know what type of ship you hit when you call the correct coordinates. You call a strike by hitting the buttons for up/down and over, like the B button then the 9 button for B9. Then you hear the shell on its way the. Either a slash sound or explosion sound. It’s it’s a hit the red light flashes as well. There is an issue with the game however that is really aggravating. You keep track of what you have called by placing pegs in the vertical board in front of you. The legs will randomly fall out of the holes. Sometimes if the table gets bumped or jarred and sometimes without any reason. This is really frustrating because now you have no idea what you have called and could waste many turns. We are going on a road trip and thought this might be fun to play in the backseat but now I don’t think it will work if if the pegs fall out so daily.

   This electronic version of Battleship has some fun upgrades. I love the lights and sounds and it makes the game more appealing to younger players. It is pretty easy to learn and to get going, especially if you use some of the presets. There are 200 different presets that the game comes programmed with so it is quickest and easiest to just select one of those and start playing. If you teach a younger player this game with the presets, you can be up and playing in minutes. If you want to select your own locations for the ships, it is a much more complicated process and not really fun.

   We had an issue with some of the pegs falling out so it was difficult to keep track of what guesses we made. It also makes this game difficult to use while traveling, which is a bummer. This game is a lot of fun and we enjoy playing it. I wish it was less expensive. It is outside of the price range of most gifts, which is a bummer.
