We just got this game recently and we are really getting into it. We read the rules to start to play, but we thought the video was actually more helpful to get us going. From the video we learned that we could play with or without the game board — cool! As the teacher, I love that putting the cards together actually makes CORRECT sentences. It’s kind of fool-proof. The colour coded arrows lead the player to a correct sentence, even if they can’t translate it all yet. They are motivated to make longer sentences because they earn more points. For the students, they want to play all the time because it doesn’t feel like work. I won’t mind letting them play in class because they are actually learning vocabulary and making complete sentences.

Fun game for those starting out in French, but not very useful for those past high beginner. However, lots of ways to make it more difficult if you’re creative and there are more ideas and free expansions for different tenses available on the website. Cards are great, but thought seems lacking in the boardgame version

My daughter (who’s 8) and I have just played ‘Kloo Race to Paris’ for the first time and loved it. She really enjoyed that she could score points with each card she played, and also additional points by knowing the meaning. It was great that as the word bank grew, she was able to be more and more successful at this second element, and could subsequently win points with cards that couldn’t initially be translated. She liked it when I landed on a hotel square and couldn’t translate something, and therefore went backwards! When we’d finished playing she said ‘can we use a different deck next time? ‘. I’m really thrilled she enjoyed it and wants to play again. We BOTH learnt something and I found the phonetic pronunciation really helpful – I always faltered a little with this at school! I like the fact that although we have the game board we could easily just play with cards & like the suggested card games on your website videos. l think this game format is a fantastic way of learning & so much more fun & interesting than workbooks or DVDs (too passive!). And one ‘lap’ of the gameboard didn’t take too long; so easily retained my daughter’s interest until she’d made it to Paris!
I’m looking forward to playing again; I can see why it’s won so many awards!

I played this with 2 teenage granddaughters – one who has 2 years of high school French,(about my level too), and the other who has studied Spanish but no French. The non- French speaking granddaughter won! It was hilarious to see how fast she caught on to the strategy, how easily she picked up vocabulary! The other granddaughter and I were taken off guard – there was definitely a factor of not being dealt the cards to make a longer sentence, but the cool thing is that we were all on equal ground. We learned a ton, and were all able to play together. Can’t wait to order the Spanish version too.

This is a great game for learning. It is probably best for beginners up to intermediate level. My son is doing GCSE this year and he is both enjoying it and finding it useful. It is a fun way to do some revision as well as learning new vocabulary. By making the sentences it helps with the word order, eg adjectives after the verbs, and the basic set can be expanded to practise different tenses. With repetition the speaking of French seems more and more natural and shyness about speaking a new language will be reduced. We also use it to help writing by making the sentences, translating them then writing them out in French to improve spelling. It is not in itself a French course, but is a very useful addition to the armoury, and one that our son plays with us very willingly, and that is not something we can say about all his studying. I am glad we bought it, and for the price of less than one lesson with a private teacher it is well worth the money.

Tellement complique que je n’ai toujours pas compris comment ça se joue. Alors pour les enfants… Impossible de jouer sans un adulte.
