- THIS IS AN EXPANSION FOR THE LEGEND OF THE FIVE RINGS ROLEPLAYING GAME: This is not a complete game experience. You will need a copy of the Legend of the Five Rings Core Game in order to play with this expansion.
- A WORLD OF ADVENTURE AWAITS: Take on the roles of samurai from the seven Great Clans serving their lords across Rokugan where warriors, courtiers, priests and monks defend their lord’s interests while upholding the Code of Bushidō, a code that demands samurai ignore their own desires in favor of justice, loyalty, and honor.
- ROLEPLAYING STRATEGY GAME: What lines will your character cross at their lord’s order? What desires will your character sacrifice to uphold their ideals? Eastern storytelling valorizes individuals sacrificing themselves to maintain societal harmony, but ideals and human emotions cannot easily be put aside even by the greatest of samurai and this inner conflict drives the drama of Legend of the Five Rings.

The product quality is amazing on this, even though it is a “beginner” or “starter” kit. The kit includes character folios and a map in addition to the specially made book that takes these characters through an initial campaign, and teaches players (and interested Storytellers/GMs) the mechanics along the way.

The name of this product is a misnomer. I would not call this a “kit” but just a screen. It does come with a booklet for a game master, but it is an adventure and not reference materials (unless you count the minor clan included in the adventure). This would of had more value to me with it was an actual kit and contained reference materials and handouts instead of an adventure. Stance cards, reference sheets of actions players can take, reference sheets of the ways Opportunity could be spent, etc., would give long lasting usefulness instead of the included materials (though you could center a campaign in the area if you wished). Most of the things I want at my finger tips from a GM perspective are on the screen, except for Terrain and preparing Invocations had me going back to the book.
Plenty here to be worth the buy, but you still will need to have the Core Rulebook close at hand.
