They are solid brass, plated with 24K gold & silver plated, with several coats of a clear finish on the checkers so they will not tarnish. This board is hand-made of the most precious and superior woods and others have no comparison, the woods used are elm, briar & burl. There is a frame along the board, the board has a high gloss finish.
