I backed this game on Kickstarter, largely based on how impressed I was with one of their other games I backed previously, Visitor in Blackwood Grove. I loved that game, but I like Mechanica even more! Fun game (even integrating the box itself into gameplay), clever game mechanic, high quality components, great art. I have played a few times and am still learning the best strategies for assembling my factory, so I don’t know yet how the game will feel when the “newness factor” wears off. I’ll update my review at some point when that happens.

I was really looking forward to this being a manufacturing engineer, but I think it’s a little over-complicated in some ways and restricted in others. it was very long to play and my 11 year old son who usually loves games like this got pretty bored even though he won. they seem really proud of the little “bot” pieces but they are pretty simple.
The instructions also use female pronouns 100% of the time instead of neutral or inclusive pronouns. I’m all for encouraging women in manufacturing, STEM, etc. but this seems a little ridiculous.

Fun, quick little engine builder. You can make incredibly complex economic machines within the system that are so satisfying to run. The real selling point for me is the rotating shop that automatically drops parts back into the box. Love this game!
