    Pieces shown as “dark brown” were actually “pink” on the set I received. The pieces excluded one prawn, but 3 castles!. The chess board is NOT wood but rather a thin wood-looking veneer over particle board. One corner of the board on my set was slightly damaged upon receipt. I would have returned this but I ordered it for my grandson who insisted I keep it. He was too excited to get it to be as concerned as I was. But my recommendation is the cliche “Buyer Beware” (i.e. Do Not Buy).

    The pieces are beautiful & nicely weighted. The board is sturdy & attractive. Don’t know why people are complaining about the dark pieces! They are just fine! I wanted something that looked like a Cloister museum set. This is it!

    The chessboard is very nice, but these pieces are so cheap and sloppily painted, I can’t imagine how anyone would like to have them. I was SO excited about these unique chessmen! To open the box and find such poor workmanship was really a blow. I’d given the set to my youngest son for Christmas and I took it back from him and sent him a late gift. I’m giving this set to charity – it’s the only thing I can think of doing with them.

    This really nice chess set made a 6yo’s dream come true… the board is solid and sturdy, the pieces are resin and have a nice weight to them. They’ve held up to a few weeks if hard play and they’ve been used as action figures because, yea, the 6yo… (fyi, I don’t recommend using as action figures, one knight lost an ear due to rough play). I’m very satisfied with the set.

    I just opened the box to examine all the pieces to make sure they are all there, no damage, etc. I am extremely disappointed to find that the brown pieces are not truly brown, and they do not match the board at all. They are more of a pale purplish-brown. I’m not sure how the color can be so different than the picture that is shown. I had been waiting to order this chess set as a gift to myself and finally purchased. The chess set in the photo would have matched my living room perfectly. The set I received, not so much. The difference in the color, between the pieces and the board, makes it look like a miss-matched set. The purplish-brown color is different, but not different enough from the board to look like it is intentional. I haven’t decided yet if I am going to return it. I really like the style of the pieces, and the board is adequate for the price (though it looks a little worn on the edges). Ugh!

    The board was a gift for my son-in-law. I knew it would be used as a display piece, as well as for playing chess, and it looks very nice on the shelf in the living room. The board itself was a little thinner than it looked in the picture, but all in all, a nice chess set.

    I am not sending it back. I like it enough to keep it. I was disappointed that the board is flat and thin. In the picture it looked thick to me. Two pieces arrived chipped; the brown queen and the white rook. It doesn’t show in the 3rd pic because I colored them in with markers. The thing I don’t like is that the seller doesn’t give an option to email and get pieces replaced. It is like the only option is to send the whole set back. I feel as though if I do that I may get a set that is worse than this one. I will use it until I can find something better.

    Nice sturdy, weighted pieces. Arrived on time and well packaged. Biggest complaint is the ‘brown’ pieces are not remotely brown. More like pink. Bought for a Father’s Day gift but my husband doesn’t mind, or I would be returning it. Other than that, it’s a nice set.
