Played fourth edition in high school, and that set was long in tooth (like falling apart). This is basically the original micro game with the new Kickstarter edition parts. Much bigger map size, 3-D Ogres and structures, larger (and thus far easier to read) counters for the normal units. Plays exactly the same, and allows for the same sandbox type development of your own scenarios. Probably the best hex and counter war game ever made (certainly the only one I know of in six editions over forty years) and still very good for all levels of (in)experienced players.

High quality components and a classic game. I still give it five stars, but I did miss the inclusion of dry erase Ogre record cards which would make the game quicker to play out of the box (you need to buy Ogre Reinforcements for those). I particularly liked the generous amount of tray space in the box to sort your counters.

Great game, good production quality, nice game components. Everything one might want in a higher end re-release of this game. The game rules are horribly written for a game that plays as simply and quickly as this one does, but apart from that this is a gem. The game board, 3-D game pieces and other components are sturdy and well illustrated. My game box arrived slightly crushed and with a torn edge, so apparently no one in the boardgamesweekly.com order fulfillment department has eyes or cares about quality.

It was with great pleasure that I chased down this edition of the classic game from my teenage years (I still have it btw). From a simple game that fit in a bookbag, to a very nice and heavy map with large counters. This game is celebrating years of soulless destruction. I couldn’t swing the money for the giant box set past the wife, but this amount was just right.
I’ll be keeping my eye out for the reinforcement pack when it get release soon.
