I’ve been looking for a fun navel combat game. Rules are a little confusing/ complicated. Games only last a few turns, ships get destroyed with only a couple of hits. The masts had broken off of most of the models.

Simple rule system that allows playability, but the ships themselves are exceedingly fragile. One ship arrived with a broken mast straight from the box. A second ship broke its mast when my brother dropped it about 8 inches above the table top. The other items in the starter kit are nicely made and should allow for a long period of enjoyable wargaming.

A good game for fans of Napoleonic era naval actions. It strikes a good balance between simulation and playability, but this isn’t a game for people who don’t enjoy advanced board and table top games. It has a good deal of rules, but they are explained very well in the rulebook.
If you are like me and have trouble finding people to play with, the Sails of Glory Anchorage provides a free chart which will allow you to play a solitaire game against “AI” opponents as well as several solitaire missions.

The game is great. The rules are easy to learn and the quality of the ship models included and sold seperately are very good. Between actions I have them lining my shelves as they look great on display. If you’re looking for an easy to play age of sail, ship to ship combat game then look no further. This line is well supported with varying add on ships, game mats, terrain etc. Rules range from beginner to advanced with the level of realism increasing with the more advanced rules. All in all a solid game and nice models from Ares Games.

Really cool game, with adjustable complexity and great attention to detail. My only grievance is just how fragile the ships themselves are. The models are incredibly well detailed, but the slightest pressure, or fall will break the masts off of them. One of my ships came straight out of the box with a broken mast, and the only reason I didn’t return it for a whole new set is that I’ve been waiting to play this game for quite a while… I managed to repair the mast by super gluing a small piece of a toothpick to it, and gluing the broken section to that. It’ll work.

Amazingly accurate yet easy to play! It has both tactical and strategic components. Very well designed game – it makes you think and strategize just as if you were on board with lord Nelson. The game mechanics of navigational cards, game mat and ship figures are the ideal format for simulating tall ship sailing! Good balance between realism and complexity. Ship figures are beautiful and come in protective package. I have many other historical board games but this one is at the top of my list! Also, I love to sail and I love historical games – this combines both.

My son loved it. Ships are very small and delicate. Not for small children at all. Lots and lots of rules so havent played it yet. Needs a blue playmat to go with to similate water
