When I received the box, it was a bit worn out on the corners. Most of them were split open and the previous owner did not do a great job fixing it. So I would need to fix it using some research to make it look better quality. If you can buy it new, I would highly suggest it.
As far as the game itself, the makers knew what they were doing. Either side (good vs. bad) are able to win. It would take longer than an hour to play depending on how competitive the players are (probably around 1-3 hours). It is very enjoyable to play with other people however only four people can play at a time (unless you put the extra players on teams). It is my only disappointment about the game. The game contains extra rules to make the gameplay more interesting. There is a ring which moves at the end of the “good” team’s turn which serves as a time limit. For house rules, you can make the game shorter by having the ring move at every other icon. According to this edition’s rules, the player with the most points wins (which is earned by achieving mission cards and I think from the amount of territories/ regions you have). You can still play the classic game of Risk by using only risk rules which are specified in the rulebook. Though the strategy portion of the game is very fun. It is challenging but you get used to it.

If you enjoy RISK, and are a LOTR fan, then you will love this game. Great board, wonderful graphics, and nice pieces (very intricate for such a massed produced game.) The basic rules are much the same as RISK, but with several twists that definitely give the game a LOTR flair. I particularly like how the One Ring moves along the board, following the same path Frodo and Sam take in the movie. Another nice feature, that separates this game from the original RISK game, is the fact that there are several “strongholds” that give an advantage to either the dark forces or the free peoples depending on the geographic location of the stronghold. Also there are “leaders” that can lend strategic advantages when attacking or defending in battle. Now about the seller: I purchased my particular game used from a private seller. The game arrived very soon (less than a week) and was well prepared and packaged for delivery. The cards were rubber banded together, and all the pieces were separated in their respective colors and placed in little zip-lock baggies. The nice thing about this particular seller, is that he included a little booklet that he himself created, adding several new rules and variants on game play, particularly on the attack and defense “strength” of several key characters that again adds a stronger and truer flair to the LOTR world. This game is definitely in my list of top 5.

I got this for a birthday present and it was delivered faster than expected! Everything is in great condition considering it’s an older game that has been used. Only some scuffed corners here and there and the center of the board is peeling a little bit, but over all wonderful! It has all of the pieces neatly organized into separate bags, and even has the one ring!

Hello. This is a great game. After I opened the box I went to my collection of HO 1/72 Scale(inch tall) medieval army men and got one of them. It turns out the figurines for this game are on scale with my collection. Now I can take the elven archers, eagles, orcs, cave trolls and others and make war on the Normans, Romans or others. One box comes with 4 groups….Two evil(Red and Black) and two good(green and yellow). Each group contains either 40 elven archers, 6 eagles and 12 riders of Rohan or 40 orcs, 6 cave trolls and 12 dark riders. This means that if you buy two boxes of this game you can have an impressive mythical army to contest the historical battlefield of medieval history. Any miniature enthusiast will love this game. I do plan I learning how to play this game for real with my third box, which I will not add the miniatures to my growing army….Yet.

It is a full set but it is only half of the real map. Don’t be fooled! Ensure you only want half the map, but there is a trilogy set that includes the southern part of the map (including Mordor and Gondor regions!!)

No black legions… No ring… Insatisfaction all the way!
