   I have vintage 1959 Roxy chess pieces that I acquired, but the original board was pretty worn out so this new board fit the bill. My king (the largest piece) is approximately 4″ tall with a 1.4″ base so all of my pieces matched the board pretty well. There is felt at the bottom of the board. The drawer slides out ok, but it doesn’t completely detach from the board. All 32 pieces of my set fit. I even added two additional queens and they fit also. I added a layer of felt inside the drawer for additional cushion for the pieces. Check out my images.

   I love the quality of this board, and the squares were large enough for my purposes.

   Here in Israel, I recently bought a vintage [1950s-1980s] Chinese chess set in stained soapstone, each piece hand-carved. The set was very reasonable.
   I saw many of these sets for sale in Hong Kong in the mid-late 1970s, and they had a Chinoiserie style board. Sadly, my set came sans board.
   The largest pieces are 37mm in longest measurement.
   The squares on this board are 38mm or even 39mm square.

   Because of the raised format [there is a drawer inside], it displays the set very well.

   Such nice craftsmanship. My grandson had yet to learn chess so we play checkers on this board. Pieces are not included but that worked out fine in our situation. I just wanted him, first to have a beautiful-looking base. The pull-out drawer is handy. Plenty of room for the checker pieces I bought that fit perfectly on the squares.
