   I was looking for a small chess set that would be convenient to travel with, take to lunch breaks, etc. At the same time I was hoping to find a set that looked nice too. I’m extremely happy with this set. The workmanship is impressive! The board is solid and extremely well made. The board doesn’t lay completely flat when opened, due to the 2 hinges, but that doesn’t bother me at all – especially since it gives you the capability to place the pieces inside the board and fold to save space and it makes it perfect to carry. You could easily place a penny or something small under each corner to make the board lay perfectly flat. The detail in each chess piece is very impressive too and the magnets hold well to the board. It’s definitely a small chess set, but that’s what makes it perfect for travel since it doesn’t take up much space. I would definitely recommend this chess board to others. It is extremely well made.

   This is a very precision made little board you can easily carry with one hand when folded. The pieces for one side will fit the the palm of your hand, including the spare queen and pawn. It is playable. You can easily carry it in your case, pack, or bag. I like to use it for following games in a Kindle book or YouTube on my smartphone. It comes wrapped in white paper and overwrapped with cellophane. I highly recommend it if you can use the smallest sized board you’ll care play.

   This is a well-made product. The size is perfect for my use on my dinner table to minimize space use and clutter. The pieces and the board are finely crafted and a pleasure to use and look at. The four small screw-on elevator legs for the board are a nice bonus that prevents the felt storage compartment and the extra pieces from having contact with the tabletop. The only quibble is that the white king has a weaker magnet than the rest and tends to slide when the board is tipped beyond about 60 degrees. I’m wondering how the magnet can be strengthened somehow. I look forward to a lifetime of good use for this chess set.

   Compact, sturdy, and very nice chess set. I was worried it might be a little too small to see clearly, but I was wrong. Magnets are perfect strength; strong enough to hold pieces when board turned 90+ degrees, but not so strong as to make playing difficult.

    I was leery purchasing this at $40 fearing it would be another cheaply made Husaria board. It’s anything but. This is a very well made board with a nice heavy feel and good magnets. It travels well.

    Pros:
    – Sturdy board with feeling of solid wood
    – Additional queens and pawns provided
    – Pieces fit snuggly inside

    Cons:
    – Strong chemical smell after opening- let it air out a while before using.

    It’s the second product that i own from house of Chess. The quality of craftmanship and material is excellent. The set is too small? Maybe you should read the description more carefully and know that 7.5 inches includes the border and it will be small indeed. With this set you will get your money’s worth and more. If you want small, portable and fun to play with. Look no further this is the game to have.
