   I recently watched Hikaru no Go (2020) on boardgamesweekly.com Prime Video (the live action production) and became fascinated with the game of Go so much so that I wanted to purchase my own board. There are many different products available but I wanted one which had a good quality board and proper dual convex Yunzi stones (i.e. not plastic). This product fitted the bill perfectly. It was delivered promptly and was very well packaged. All the items arrived in perfect condition and the manufacturer even provided a few extra stones of each color. As suggested, I washed the stones in water and then dried them after which I coated them with mineral oil. This I did by placing the stones in a plastic bag with a little mineral oil and mixing them around until they were all coated. Afterwards I removed each stone and dried off the oil using a paper towel. The stones looked great and had a nice luster to them. This is a high quality product and as such adds to the enjoyment of playing the game of Go.

   Absolutely stunning Go set. The neatly packaged set showed up in pristine condition. No nicks, scars, or damage to the board, bowls, or stones. Was thrilled to see that it came with a felt bag for the board. I can’t be for certain, but I think the yunzi stones I received had already been washed and oiled, at least the black ones. Was surprised cause I was told they would be covered in a white dust. I spent the time to rinse and oil then anyways and BOY are they gorgeous. I got so excited about it that I couldn’t wait to bring it to meet with friends to play, so I started playing a game against myself just so I could play these stones and the board. This is the second board and stone set I bought from Yellow Mountain Imports (the first was a 13×13 and 9×9 board with plastic stones that was also a great buy) and I couldn’t be more pleased with this company. Bravo!

   Soy un completo novato en el mundo del go, no tengo con qué comparar. Pero la caja que envuelve el producto (no la de boardgamesweekly.com) es bonita y buen cartón, viene envuelto en espuma de buena calidad, el panfleto del go está muy bien editado (a nivel encuadernado y calidad de papel, es un regalo, no lo leí), el tablero huele bien. Las piedras blancas son muy bonitas, dan ganas de jugar solo blancas pese a las desventajas, las negras habrá que limpiarlas.
   Había una piedra negra rota, pero las conté y traía holgadamente más de 181 negras 180 blancas (al menos 10 negras y seis blancas, pero pude perder la cuenta). Es muy grande, eso sí. Es bueno para jugar, pero debes der consciente del espacio que ocupará. He escrito de forma desorganizada, pero es que no quiero sonar a “infomercial” y me apetecía compartir que me gustó mucho. Estás pagando una pastaza por unas piedras y una tabla (conseguí el modelo piedras biconvexas Yunzi por 139 casi 140€), pero una vez asumes esto, hacen que parezca que valió la pena. Ah, la bolsa es chula, también. Y la funda del tablero. Por ahí arriba alguien opinó casi lo mismo que yo (mejor redactado, pero hasta tenía tb una piedra negra rota). Si se pudiera, habría puesto +1.

   La qualité est superbe, j’ai analysé les pierres Yunzi par fluorescence aux rayons X, les pierres ne contiennent pas de plomb contrairement aux anciennes fabrications, j’ai seulemnent détecté du zinc, probablement de l’oxyde de zinc. Le plaisir au toucher des pierres est réel, rien à voir avec l’ancien jeu en melamine que j’avais. Par transparence les pierres noires font ressortir un très beau vert ainsi que quelques bulles. J’ai cependant noté que la grille du goban n’était pas parallèle aux bords de la planche, c’est un problème qui s’oublie vite dès qu’on commence à jouer.

   Seriously, a beautiful set. After spending $30 on a portable set at a local store and returning it (plastic stones+printed grid that was rubbing off), I decided to give this set a try and spring a much higher amount of money so that my kids and I could learn to play go together. Playing on this set makes it so much more pleasurable: from the bamboo board with the etched design (not printed) to the smooth and cold weighty yunzi stones and the large bamboo bowls filled with the stones–it makes playing THIS game of Go is a very tactile and enjoyable experience. Although in whole disclosure, I’m not 100% sure I know what a yunzi stone is really like since this is the first set we bought (and likely the last). The board has a beginner side with a smaller grid on one side, and the stones stay on the board- they do not slide around as they were on the cheaper board we previously bought. Although the board is not foldable, it is quite beautiful and large as well. Both a thick fabric sleeve, velcro straps for the bowls and a carrying bag makes stashing the game away a safe if space-consuming task! In a nutshell, a completely worthwhile experience if you want to invest in learning or playing Go.

   Per 150 euro il prodotto è straordinario. La tavola all’occhio è molto gratificante. Tutto in bambù. Le pietre sono fatte con un materiale molto solido e si sente il loro “peso” altrettanto soddisfacente. Spedizione boardgamesweekly.com gestita benissimo come sempre.
