   Should you buy this if you already own the 2008 edition? The short answer is no. All you’re getting here are translucent ships, alien combo cards, and an extra alien card. The rule book has some extremely bad typos which may confuse first time players. This is really a non-issue though since the 2008 rule book is available online as a PDF and does a much better job explaining the nuances of the game. I would also recommend any new player to consult with the Board Game Geek community forum for rules clarification and errata. One last criticism I have of this game is that it is very difficult to discern the purple ships from the blue ships once stacked, which I can confirm. This is exacerbated if you are colorblind or play the game under limited light conditions. However, for my group, we did not have any issues telling the ships apart. Your milage may vary though. So, if you already own the 2008 edition or just prefer opaque ships, do not get this edition. So why the 5 stars? Well, this is one of the best negotiation games out there and, regardless of the edition, is extremely replayable. With 51 aliens in the core set, you can have over 2 million combinations in a 5 player game. That basically means that every game you play will be totally unique. A quick caveat: playing with competitive people who are easy to point out the unfairness of a situation will probably have a bad time with this game. Only consider this game if your group enjoys silly situations. Even though it’s not labeled as such, I consider this a story telling game rather than a serious index of skill and mental prowess. You can be born with a silver tongue and still lose.

   Rules-wise, the game is very easy to play, with a rulebook of only 12 or so pages. I taught my group in less than 10 minutes and we were engrossed since the “get-go”. There are no dice in this game. It is a card game with funky ships, excellent production values, and a HUGE community support. This product shines with the Player to Player action. To get where you need to be, you must be confrontational but at the same time be willing to ally with them, situation permitting. Each player will be given a unique alien and that aspect alone will make this game replayable almost indefinately. Often the alien powers and the players decisions will bring about tons of hilarity and humourous frustration. Keep in mind though that this is a 3 player + game. I can’t see one getting away with playing with 2 at all.
