They’re pretty but they’re not metal, it’s molded plastic and not perfectly molded plastic, there’s a seam in it. The only metal is “inside” each chess piece on the bottom for the weight. there is a pad on the bottom it’s pretty cool can’t see if it’s leather or not. The way the chessboard folds up is pretty tight it’s pretty sturdy but it leaves the actual chessboard exposed to scratches, unless you put it in a plastic all the time and stick it back in the box. I guess that’s my fault I just never thought of it. So, I guess they kind of give you a hint because they say adult or child chessboard. I just thought when I said metal the entire piece would be made out of metal.

I bought this for my son that I haven’t been able to spend time with lately and I found out that he is a very good chess player. He beat me 17 out of 17 games, so I bought this chess set to prove to him who the man is in this house!!! LOL
we haven’t gotten to play yet but when he saw it, he was amazed! I couldn’t ask for better quality for the price than this chess set here! Please…if you are looking for a great chess board and incredible pieces, then do not look any further. You can thank me later!
