Open world games can be hit or miss…this is a hit. Great story and fun combat. The game can take hours to complete if you want to really go on a journey. It is a bit of a table hog so be advised.

This is a worthy successor to Sleeping Gods! There are some mechanical changes but the essence of the game is very similar. And while there are various references to the original game, Distant Skies stands just fine on its own without any knowledge of the original Sleeping Gods.
My friends and I are 25 hours into this game and we love love love it. Some of the mechanics are much-needed refinements on the previous game (no more command tokens!), while some are just a different design direction with a different flavor (no money just resource tokens, randomized weapon cards, different combat round mechanics). There are fewer playable characters but the writing is still strong.
