   Just like the older discontinued version except the gatekeeper is not as cool and you use an app instead of the vhs. Putting the keys together seemed silly and we had to fight with a few but other than that we love the game!

   I used to play this as a kid myself so was thrilled to see a newer version had been released. Bought this for the kids birthday just before Halloween so great timing for setting the ‘atmosfear’! The kids (9yo) loved playing this, they thought it was hilarious. Might not be suitable for younger children as it does pick on certain players and throws out the odd insult, but it’s all in good fun. None of us have actually been able to win the game before the time runs out yet, despite playing at quite a speedy pace with 4 players (it only gives you an hour on the countdown and then you all lose) but the whole ‘rushing to win’ situation makes the game all the more interesting, it keeps you on your toes and scrambling for the dice. Overall, this game is great fun and refreshingly different and more interactive than your average board game.

   I brought this for family halloween and wasn’t disappointed. The app was no issue to set up and we mirrored it on the t.v so it gave a good presence of the gate keeper, who gave us some good laughs. Just a note to say read the game set up before you start him tho as he doesn’t explain the game for you he just starts playing straight away. It’s very fast paste which helps if you have a heads up on the symbols on the board and their meaning for the game before you start play. As you don’t have time to refer to the instructions whilst playing. For the money paid and game received I was happy and will play again with family and friends. We have a 11 year old who could follow the game ok. Would recommend.

   Recently played with my wife and two 15 year olds. Game is fun and fast. No need to “set the mood” the game is not scary one bit, it’s more stupid humor and downright insulting as the guy calls you an idiot and a moron, etc. It was cheesy-cute, and we laughed a bunch. Will play again.

   This is hilarious and fun to play. This game makes for long lasting memories and inside jokes. This is super affordable and has great re-playability.
   First version I played was in the 90’s – the people I played with then still bring it up, lots of great memories and laughs!

    Tech stuff: The app doesn’t work on the Samsung Fold. My husband has the 1st Fold and I have the newest one. We had to use my daughter’s older phone to play. It was still glitchy here and there. It had nothing to do with internet speeds as a previous review implied. We all use the same wifi. Mirroring also wasn’t the factor that determined whether it worked or not. We tried using it offline on the new phones and that didn’t make any difference at all.

    Game play: It’s chaotic and rushed. You’re supposed to stop when the gatekeeper is on the screen, but the timer does not. The closer you get to the end, the more frequently he pops up. One person may take a turn before he reappears. This could still be fixed as apps can be updated, but we might try playing with the vhs YouTube video in the meantime. I do like how it wasn’t the same game the second time we played. The gatekeeper adjusts his banter and adds a new task here and there.
    3 stars because it still has potential and there’s an element of nostalgia. If you didn’t play this as a kid, you might rate it lower.
